Halford L. Hoskinshas been a student of the modern Middle East for a considerable span of years. His studies have included periods of travel and residence in the area and research in the manuscript records in the Citadel archives in Cairo. In addition to many articles, his writings mclude British Routes to India and The Middle East: Problem Area in World Politics. Dr. Hoskins was the organizer of the Fletcher School of Law and Diplomacy in Medford, Massachusetts, and served as its dean for 11 years before setting up the School of Advanced International Studies and the Middle East Institute in Washington, D. C. He also initiated the Middle East Journal. He is now on temporary leave from the Legislative Reference Service of the Library of Congress to assist in the setting up of area studies in the School of International Service of The American University.
