A. L. Rowsewas elected a Fellow of All Souls College at the age of 21, where he has since devoted his energies to historical research and writing. He is also a fellow of the Royal Society of Literature. Mr. Rowse is the author of The English Spirit, The English Past, The England of Elizabeth and The Expansion of Elizabethan England. His latest book is The Early Churchills: An English Family.
