DAVID E. APTER, Ph.D., Princeton University, is at present an Assistant Professor of Political Science, North-western University. He held an Area Research Training Fellowship from the Social Science Research Council in 1952-1953 for research in the Gold Coast and is currently engaged in research in Uganda as a Fellow of the Ford Foundation. He is the author of The Gold Coast in Transition, Princeton University Press, 1955, and various articles dealing with the African scene.
