VACLAV E. MAKES worked for 18 years with the coal, steel and cement industry in Central Europe. For six of these years he also taught industrial economics at the School of Business in Prague. From 1946 to 1948 he served with the Ministry for Foreign Trade as a commercial adviser to the Czech Embassy in Washington, D.C., and as economic adviser to the Czech delegation to the United Nations.
