JOHN K. MAHON is a captain of Field Artillery in the Reserves, having served four years in World War II with a combat division. His Ph.D. is from U.C.L.A., with a dissertation on “The Citizen Soldier in National Defense, 1789-1815.” His publications include articles in historical periodicals, and a preface on the history of the organization of American infantry in The Army Lineage Book, Vol. II. He is an associate editor of Military Affairs, and a trustee of the American Military Institute.
