Francis Lister Hawks Pott, a graduate of Columbia University and the General Theological Seminary, was ordained in the Protestant Episcopal Church and entered upon religious and educational work in China. He was appointed president of St. John’s University, Shanghal, in 1888. Elected missionary bishop of Wuhu, China, in 1910, he declined the position. He has translated the following works into Chinese: “Commentary on the Apostles’ Creed” “Science Primer,” “Physical Geography.” “Life of Christ,” “Parables of Christ,” “Extension of the Kingdom of Heaven,” and “Life of Alexander Hamilton.” He is also the author of “A Sketch of Chinese History” and “The Emergency in China.”
