Patricio N. Abinales is an associate professor of Southeast Asian studies at the Center for Southeast Asian Studies, Kyoto University, Japan, and a member of the Southeast Asia editorial board of Critical Asian Studies. He is the author of Making Mindanao: Cotabato and Davao in the Formation of the Philippine Nation-State (Quezon City: Ateneo de Manila University Press, 2000).
