JAMES MELNICK is a graduate student at Harvard University in the Regional Studies-Soviet Union Program. As an undergraduate in political science at Westminster College, Pennsylvania, he wrote an honors thesis entitled, “ De-Maoization: An Alternative in Sino-Soviet Relations ” under the directions of Dr. W. Thomas Nichols. He has done several literary translations for Soviet Studies in Literature and is currently engaged in a paper on Vietnam and the Sino-Soviet dispute for Professor Daniel P. Moynihan.
