JOHN N. HAZARD has been Professor of Public Law at Columbia University since 1946. He was an exchange student at the Moscow Law School, 1934-1937. During World War II he served as Special Assistant to Vice-President Henry Wallace on his mission to the U.S.S.R. and China, and later as adviser on Soviet law to the U.S. Prosecutor at the Nuremberg Trials. Professor Hazard is past President of the International Association of Legal Sciences, the American branch of the International Law Association, and the American Foreign Law Association. From 1951 to 1959 he was Managing Editor of the American Slavic and East European Review. His latest book, Communists and Their Law: A Search for the Common Core of the Legal Systems of the Marxian Socialist States, was reviewed in this journal. Professor Hazard has authored four other books and over 100 papers and. articles.
