There is an error on page 6, line 31, regarding the date for when the Communist Party was banned in West Germany. The correct year is 1956.
This sentence should read:
It featured in Western parliamentary democracies with relatively substantial communist parties, chiefly Italy and France, when those parties were ousted from governments of “national agreement” in 1947, and in the newly formed Federal Republic of Germany, where the Communist Party was banned in 1956.
