This final issue of Communist and Post-Communist Studies (CPCS) in 2020 marks the end of an era, as it is the last issue organized by the journal’s former editorial team led by Lucy Kerner and Robert P. Hager, Jr. It is particularly momentous as Lucy has been the journal’s editor or co-editor since 1997, during which time she steered the journal through momentous and often turbulent changes in the communist and post-communist world. She was a driving force behind this special issue, which is dedicated to politics in Hong Kong and China.

This special issue exemplifies the journal’s editorial transition in several respects.
