JEROME KARABEL is Visiting Professor of Sociology at Princeton University and a Senior Editor of Theory and Society. He is a member of the faculty at the University of California, Berkeley and an Associate of the Institute of Industrial Relations. He is currently writing a book on intellectuals in Eastern Europe and the breakdown of communism.
