GRZEGORZ EKIERT is an Assistant Professor of Government and a Research Associate at the Center for European Studies at Harvard University. Professor Ekiert is the author of numerous articles dealing with the prospects and dilemmas of transition to a market economy in East Central Europe, as well as various social issues such as voting behavior and attitudes. His forthcoming book, The State Against Society: The Aftermath of Political Crises in East Central Europe, examines the relationship between the state and society in Czechoslovakia, Hungary, and Poland.
