STEPHEN R. BURANT is a Research Analyst in Soviet and East European Affairs at the Library of Congress. He received his MA and PhD degrees from the University of Wisconsin-Madison, where he worked under Professor Melvin Croan. His work includes research on the political style of the Soviet elite and the political sociology of the 19th century Polish revolutionary movement. He is currently working on a study of official political culture in the People's Republic of Poland.
