GENE SOSIN worked for many years as a senior executive of Radio Free Europe/Radio Liberty before his recent retirement. He holds a Ph.D. from Columbia University with specialization in Soviet literature. He revised and edited John Gunther's Inside Russia Today, contributed chapters to Ernest J. Simmons, Through the Glass of Soviet Literature and Rudolf L. Tokes, Dissent in the USSR, and wrote the introduction to Albert L. Weeks, The Troubled Detente. His articles and reviews have appeared in Problems of Communism, Slavonic Review, New Leader, Midstream, Christian Science Monitor, and New York Times. He has lectured widely on U.S. campuses about magnitizdat uncensored tape recordings of Soviet dissident songs. He is currently working on a book about Soviet underground humor.
