JOYCE MARIE MUSHABEN is an Assistant Professor of Political Science and Research Associate in the Center for International Studies at the University of Missouri-St. Louis since 1980. She received her doctoral degree from Indiana University in 1981, following two years of dissertation research at the Berlin Free University, dealing with the juridicalization of higher educational reform in the Federal Republic of Germany, 1969–1979. Her articles have appeared or are to appear in The Journal of Political and Military Sociology, Alternatives, Polity, West European Politics, Research in Political Sociology and Higher Education. She has recently returned from six months of participant observation in the West German peace movement as a prelude to a book on changing security perceptions among the postwar ‘successor generations’.
