ARCHIE BROWN is a fellow of St. Antony's College, Lecturer in Soviet Institutions at Oxford University, and Convener of the Communist Politics Group of the British Political Studies Association. Following graduate studies at the London School of Economics, he was Lecturer in Politics at Glasgow University, 1964-1971. He has visited the Soviet Union and Czechoslovakia several times, including an academic year (1967-1968) spent as a British Council exchange scholar at Moscow University. His publications include Soviet Politics and Political Science (1974), The Soviet Union Since the Fall of Khrushchev (co-edited with Michael Kaser, 1975 and 1978), and Political Culture and Political Change in Communist States (co-edited with Jack Gray, 1977).
