C. L. CHIOU is Senior Lecturer in Political Science at the University of Queensland, where he teaches Chinese and Japanese politics and Asian Communism. He received his B.A. degree from National Taiwan University, MBA. from San Diego State University, and Ph.D. from the University of California at Riverside. Dr. Chiou is the author of Maoism in Action: The Cultural Revolution (1974), Democracy and the Future of Taiwan (1976), Maoism: China's Political Ideology (forthcoming), and more than twenty articles on politics in China and Taiwan.

TSIU-SHUANG HAN is a research officer in the Australian Public Service. She received her B.A. (Honours) in philosophy from the University of Singapore and M.A. in political science from the University of Queensland. Her principal areas of study are the philosophical content of Maoism and Sino-Japanese relations.
