Civil-military relations in the Soviet Union: The developmental perspective

TIMOTHY J. COLTON is Assistant Professor of Political Science at the University of Toronto. He is the author of Commissars, Commanders and Civilian Authority: The Structure of Soviet Military Politics (forthcoming), an outgrowth of his Harvard dissertation, and of articles published in Current History, the Canadian Journal of Political Science, Canadian Slavonic Papers, and Soviet Studies. Professor Colton is currently doing research on the politics of Soviet city planning.
