PAUL H. B. GODWIN is Associate Professor of Asian Studies at the Air University, Maxwell Air Force Base, where he teaches Chinese military doctrine and strategy. Prior to this appointment, he taught at Florida State University and at Washington University, St. Louis, and served as an analyst for the Central Intelligence Agency. He is co-author of The Making of a Model Citizen in Communist China (1971) and author of “Civil-Military Relations in Communist China” in Dale Herspring and Ivan Volgyes (eds.), Civil-Military Relations in Communist Systems (forthcoming), and has published articles in Small Group Behavior, Comparative Politics, Studies in Comparative Communism, and the Air University Review. Dr. Godwin is currently doing research on the modernization of the Chinese People's Liberation Army.
