Philip Garone is professor and chair of the Department of History at California State University Stanislaus. He earned a PhD in history and an MS in ecology from the University of California Davis, and his research has focused on the environmental history of the Central Valley and the Sacramento–San Joaquin Delta. He is the author of The Fall and Rise of the Wetlands of California's Great Central Valley (2011; paperback released in 2020) and is currently working on an environmental history of the terminal lakes of the western Great Basin.
