Michael F. Magliari is a professor of history at California State University, Chico. Currently researching the history of Native American servitude in California during the gold rush and Civil War eras, he is coauthor (with Michael J. Gillis) of John Bidwell and California: The Life and Writings of a Pioneer, 1841–1900 (2003) and a coauthor of the new fifth edition of The Elusive Eden: A New History of California (2020).
