A Discussion of California Native American Voting Rights
Jean Reith Schroedel is the Thornton Bradshaw professor of politics and policy at Claremont Graduate University. She has written more than forty scholarly articles and edited or coedited five books, including Is the Fetus a Person?A Comparison of Policies across the Fifty States, which was given the American Political Science Association’s Victoria Schuck Book Award. In 2017, she was awarded the Claremont Colleges Diversity in Teaching Award. Her recent research has focused on voting rights issues affecting Native Americans. Schroedel was an expert witness in Wandering Medicine v. McCulloch (2012), and her research was used in Sanchez v. Cegavske (2016) and in Poor Bear v. Jackson County (2017). Her new book, Voting in Indian Country: The View from the Trenches, will be published in September 2020.
