This article reviews the war's repercussions on Iran's role in the region and its position on several Arab and non-Arab issues. It examines the West's perceptions of Iran's role in the region and the possibility of adapting to it. The article first examines the role Iran played in the planning for the capture of Israeli soldiers that triggered the war, how Iran's position evolved regarding the open conflict and, finally, what repercussions the war is likely to have on the Islamic Republic's nuclear policy and its relations with the Arabs.
