This article is an examination and analysis of the forces and trends that were unleashed by the 2006 summer war between Israel and Hezbollah. It studies the effects on Lebanese politics and stability as well as on the fortunes of Hezbollah itself. It also examines the effects of the war on regional and international players such as Syria, Saudi Arabia, and Iran, as well as Israel and the USA. The article concludes that neither Israel nor Hezbollah won the war but that the conflict left Lebanon and the region more unstable and vulnerable to further shocks.
