Each summer, the San Diego Comic-Con offers an important intersection between Hollywood and its fans. While most of the mainstream media coverage focuses on stars and celebrities or on costumes, this article places these high profile elements into a larger context, considering the many different functions which the event plays for those who attend, including as a space for industry networking, for discussions of the future of comics, for fan activism and academic analysis.
